George Rainovic suggested an idea (#4032) · Oct 05, 2018 at 04:11 PM · portalreservationapi
Currently, an image can be defined on ResourceModel level, but not on the individual resource level.
We would like to have different images for resources or apps in the sandbox.
We would like to be able to change this image with API and RM Client.
===
We will have to define 10s of different resources model that are essentially the same, except that their images are not. With this feature, we can save a lot of work and reduce clutter.

Hi,
Can you please provide more details about this use case, are you using a single resource model to integrate different devices?
Hi @George Rainovic, I haven't seen any reply to @Meni Beso question, can you please clarify the requirements?
George Rainovic commented · Jun 25, 2019 at 03:11 PM
Here is my use case:
Sandbox is modified during the setup phase, by dynamically adding resources discovered in the remote lab. Those remote resources can be routers, switches, servers, VMs, etc.
From the perspective of sandbox automation, no differences between those resources. One resource model will be sufficient, except that we do not want all of them to be represented with the same icon.
Hi @George Rainovic, thanks for clarifying, So you are essentially using some sort of a generic resource for several use cases and would like to provide different visualization for the users? Will a label defining the logical usage of the resource help as well (Since we are working a such an addition), if you can set predefined labels for those resources what that solve the requirements?
George Rainovic commented · Jul 20, 2019 at 02:23 AM
Hi Dan,
About adding label (and color) to the resource icon
Short answer: Maybe. Once I see it implemented, I will be able to provide a better answer.
Hi George,
did you try the label feature? does it answer your needs?
Kim Horanyi commented · Oct 14, 2020 at 01:10 AM
We do use the new color labeling feature, but our users are still very interested in having multiple unique resource icons for resources that have similar functionality and therefore share the same shell. Icons are still the primary way in user experience to provide clarity in functionality of the resource block, and when the icons are the same, users assume the resources are the same.
Natti Katz commented · Sep 30, 2021 at 07:28 AM
this is possible with deployed "app" resources to define unique images, but not for concrete resources. It could be useful in some cases, but also new model with dedicated image can be created in that case. If it is 1G style resource, then family level attribute inheritance can be used. If 2G shells, the attributes would have to be duplicated across the yaml files.

Hi Gilat,
Yes, we tried. It is much better than before, it adds more clarity to the busy canvas.
My users still ask for resource-specific images and background images. I hope that in the future we will have those.
Thanks,
George
